FreeBSD 7.1 is out

Gosh, it already out!.. just past 2 weeks i discover about RC2 release.. now it's already here.. not download it yet..

FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE Announcement

The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE. This is the second release from the 7-STABLE branch which improves on the functionality of FreeBSD 7.0 and introduces some new features. Some of the highlights:
  • The ULE scheduler is now the default in GENERIC kernels for amd64 and i386 architectures. The ULE scheduler significantly improves performance on multicore systems for many workloads.
  • Support for using DTrace inside the kernel has been imported from OpenSolaris. DTrace is a comprehensive dynamic tracing framework.
  • A new and much-improved NFS Lock Manager (NLM) client.
  • Boot loader changes allow, among other things, booting from USB devices and booting from GPT-labeled devices.
  • The cpuset(2) system call and cpuset(1) command have been added, providing an API for thread to CPU binding and CPU resource grouping and assignment.
  • KDE updated to 3.5.10, GNOME updated to 2.22.3.
  • DVD-sized media for the amd64 and i386 architectures
For a complete list of new features and known problems, please see the online release notes and errata list, available at:

Availability

FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE is now available for the amd64, i386, ia64, pc98, powerpc, and sparc64 architectures.
FreeBSD 7.1 can be installed from bootable ISO images or over the network; the required files can be downloaded via FTP or BitTorrent as described in the sections below. While some of the smaller FTP mirrors may not carry all architectures, they will all generally contain the more common ones, such as i386 and amd64.

my new Samsung SyncMaster793DF

Just buy used monitor Samsung Syncmaster 793DF from LYN, to replace my old Likom that alredy have problems with the dispplay. it's really a good product from samsung.. tested and so far it's ok.. warranty in 1 week...

Done installation of Solaris 10 x86 on VmWare 6.5.x

At last! normally i have problem installing Solaris 10 in "my old faithful" VmWare Workstation 4.5.x and I decided to switch to VmWare Workstation 6.5.x on my AMD Athlon64 3000+ box.. hell yeah it's success!!

Normal probnlem i'll face is it stuck while boot, looks like "panic" or something and I assume it's my hardware problem..

Just ordered/book an old Sun Ultra 10 box fullset with monitor and keyboard ( it's affordable ) and it'll be used for testing Solaris 8/9 for sparc. I'll also get an old Sun Sparcstation 4/5 ( fullset ) for testing other Solaris (6/7/8 ) from my project office since they not using it.. so utilise the possibilities!

If i have opportunity, sure i'll try to setup my own HPUX box at home for RnD, but it's quite hard since the hardware is so damn expensive!..

next plan is buy some box ( already know where to get it ) that fully supported VmWare ESX 3.5++, since I'm now need to handle it in my working environment...

At last.... my NetBSD box ( all ) is patched perfectly!

Dunno what the hell is goin' on, all my NetBSD box is showing error while compiling for patch, some is happen during compiling kernel, other is during "distribution".. this problem takes few days to test+ redo, lots of fetch/refecth src from cvs server, using cvs and cvsup, lots of cleaning /usr/obj + /usr/tools+ make clean and recompile, even it's stress me out so I've setup other boxes as testing, including VmWare to do same thing all over and compare..

2009.. wow.. it gonna be a tough year...

2009..

I'm not celebrating it.. just sit and think, what should i do for this year, at least something i already plan from last year:

1- Buy a "four-wheeled" ( got several in my list )
2- get license 1st la!
3- get a 550cc/400cc bikes ( not yet finalised, just think of it )
4- Something personal, i can't revealed here.. but it's about changing my life.. to the "next level".. postponed? nah.. hard to say...
5- more to new house?
6- Startup a band.. ( yes it's started already )
7- hardwork.. lots of projects..

don't want to blabbering much.. just do.. yes all is in my dreams.. be ambitious but u must do.. don't just sit there and think think think.. it won't happen!! just simply do!! that's it.. i remember a quote from master jedi YODA to Luke Skywalker..

"There is no try, but do or do not"

so i know myself, i will do if i want and i like to, until i'm dying while doing it ehehehe...

**sigh**
a tough year, but i will survive... just some plans it spoilt due to some reasons
