The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE. This is the first release from the 7-STABLE branch which introduces many new features along with many improvements to functionality present in the earlier branches. Some of the highlights:

• Dramatic improvements in performance and SMP scalability shown by various database and other benchmarks, in some cases showing peak performance improvements as high as 350% over FreeBSD 6.X under normal loads and 1500% at high loads. When compared with the best performing Linux kernel (2.6.22 or 2.6.24) performance is 15% better. Results are from benchmarks used to analyze and improve system performance, results with your specific work load may vary. Some of the changes that contribute to this improvement are:
  
  • The 1:1 libthr threading model is now the default.
    
  • Finer-grained IPC, networking, and scheduler locking.
    
  • A major focus on optimizing the SMP architecture that was put in place during the 5.x and 6.x branches.
    
  Some benchmarks show linear scaling up to 8 CPUs. Many workloads see a significant performance improvement with multicore systems.
  
• The ULE scheduler is vastly improved, providing improved performance and interactive response (the 4BSD scheduler is still the default for 7.0 but ULE may become the default for 7.1).
  
• Experimental support for Sun's ZFS filesystem.
  
• gjournal can be used to set up journaled filesystems, gvirstor can be used as a virtualized storage provider.
  
• Read-only support for the XFS filesystem.
  
• The unionfs filesystem has been fixed.
  
• iSCSI initiator.
  
• TSO and LRO support for some network drivers.
  
• Experimental SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) support (FreeBSD's being the reference implementation).
  
• Much improved wireless (802.11) support.
  
• Network link aggregation/trunking (lagg(4)) imported from OpenBSD.
  
• JIT compilation to turn BPF into native code, improving packet capture performance.
  
• Much improved support for embedded system development for boards based on the ARM architecture.

Availability

FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE is now available for the amd64, i386, ia64, pc98, and powerpc architectures. The version for the sparc64 architecture will become available in a few days. Some of the package builds are still in progress.

FreeBSD 7.0 can be installed from bootable ISO images or over the network; the required files can be downloaded via FTP or BitTorrent as described in the sections below. While some of the smaller FTP mirrors may not carry all architectures, they will all generally contain the more common ones, such as i386 and amd64.

MD5 and SHA256 hashes for the release ISO images are included at the bottom of this message.

The contents of the ISO images provided as part of the release has changed for most of the architectures. Using the i386 architecture as an example, there are ISO images named ``bootonly'', ``disc1'', ``disc2'', ``disc3'', ``livefs'', and ``docs''. The ``bootonly'' image is suitable for booting a machine to do a network based installation using FTP or NFS. The ``disc1'', ``disc2'', and ``disc3'' images are used to do a full installation that includes a basic set of packages and does not require network access to an FTP or NFS server during the installation. To boot into a ``live CD-based filesystem'' and system rescue mode ``disc1'' and ``livefs'' are needed. The ``docs'' image has all of the documentation for all supported languages. Most people will find that ``disc1'', ``disc2'' and ``disc3'' are all that are needed if you want to install some packages during the initial install, and just ``disc1'' if you prefer to install packages after the initial install is completed.

FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE can also be purchased on CD-ROM from several vendors. One of the vendors that will be offering FreeBSD 7.0-based products is:

Upgrade FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE KE 5.5-RELEASE + security patch

Erm..
gatal tgn plaks.. box ni dah lama 5.4-RELEASE-pXX tp pasal devel 5.4 dah lama stop, even 5.x pun tak lama nak EOL, 5.5 -RELEASE still menten lg.. saja gatal upgred pakai cvsup..

alhamdulillah.. setel.. :) semua apps services jalan cam biasa..

tu rutin biasa untuk sesapa yg menten server. Check kat web FreeBSD, terperasan keluar 14hb ( dah kira almost 6 hari la ) so terusla patch.. atas inisiatif dan kerajinan sendirik..

Balik kampung!! ngan moto.. RG?

Well as biasa2 aku mmg suka travel jauh2.. balik kg ke apa2 ngan moto.. lg feel dan senang nak round2 masa kat sana nanti..

So dalam hati terpikir2 nak balik ngan NSR atau ngan RG?.. decide ngan RG pasal saja nak test ok ke tak.. lgpun aritu Kuantan-KL boleh je ( tp enjin dia "bunyi semacam" ).. so tuh dah half way.. Kuantan-KT lebih kurang dalam 250km..



Tersangkut beberapa hal menyebabkan lambat sikit berlepas.. pi antar pasang side mirror dulu, set karburator dan 2T ( antara punca pasni jd masalah lain ).. dan kena pulak musim CNY.. semua workshop tutup.. parts tadak.. mana2 yg bukak, penuh mcm "kene hurung semut"..

Starter point, SHELL sebelum TOL Gombak.. isi penuh2.. isi gak backup petrol 2 botol 1.5liter penuh2.. beg peralatan+tools dan lain2, baca doa apa2 yg patut ( wajib! nak jalan jauh sorg2 korang jgn eksen.. apa2 boleh jadi )

start gerak pkl 11/2/2008 4pm.. lewat giler dr plan asal.. tp aku nih degil.. gerak mesti gerak gak..




Ahah! terjumpa org jual lemang.. yessss... toringin bona pakcik ngan lomang nih eh... terus stop kejap bedal lemang panas2 br pas bakar ngan serunding daging.. rasa? "bolehla" lgpun teringin+lapau.. bedal je le...




sambil2 makan tuh ada 2 family chinese dan 1-2 org driver lori stop makan+rest2+layan rokok.. kat tepi ada pulak monyet2 dok bercanda2 bergurau senda.. kejap je terus hit highway balik.. perjalanan masih jauh woooooo..


masa shoot ( laju gak aku bawak ) masuk ke LPT, kat toll house benti kejap check enjin.. pasal bunyi "ada pelik" sikit.. tgk kat ekzos.. ujung ( tip ) mcm takde minyak atau berminyak.. nampak hitam dan kering sgt2.. errr petanda "tak berapa baik"..

so bukak beg dan isi sikit 2T dalam tank, topup petrol full2 dr botol backup dan start enjin... tgk asap ada keluar.. so lega ati la..

pasang beg.. dan terus jalan.. bawak laju2 balik ( silap kat sini la, aku patut bawak slow2 je dulu )..

masa henjut laju2 tu ( 120-140kmj ) terperasan teriba mcm sebu sket.. lama gak.. then teruskan lagi.. perasan la hentian LANCANG.. buat dono je la.. jalan pun dah bumping semacam :)..

then suddenly.. the SHIT HAPPENS!!!

PRAAPPPPPP!! bunyik kat blok!!

Sah piston jem!! terus aku tarik clutch cecepat ( respons cepat pasal dulu2 penah ekna, ngan moto lain )... matikan enjin.. park tepi.. ah sudah... dah pukul 4-5 ptg ni.. journey jauh lg.. sorg2 plak tu!!..

Erm..
takdir betul.. rahmat tuhan.. ada sorg mamat lalu ngan gf/tunang dia naik 110SS.. dan dia offer tunda ( ngan kaki siol!! ) ke Temerloh.. punya la jauh.. 40++ km tu.. dah la dia beg banyak.. byk org.. ngan aku lg, beg banyak gak... salute kat mamat tuh ( nama dia Along )..

Masuk ke TOL Temerloh.. dia kol parent, aku kol kengkawan yg dok sana.. dah almost maghrib, pkl 6-7 camtu.. alhamdulillah sampai gak kawasan "ada org"..

Then kami pegi ke rumah pakcik beliau, nama Abg Mail..






So tinggal la moto kat situ suh pakciknya tgkkan.. repair apa2 yg patut... dan si Along ni hantar aku pi stesen bas tgk bas cemana.. tp skali silap antar pi stesen bas biasa daa.. bas dah xde ahahahaha.. takpe la.. dia tolong tu dah 100X lebih dr baik dah.. tunda dr lancang.. hantar pg umah pakcik dia.. ni hantar pi stesen bas lg..

so lepas drop by tu singgah kat kedai Nasik ayam family Din, kawan lama aku.. si Din plak takdak.. parent dia really nice greeting me.. len kali gue singgah bebetul eh?

So kawan dalam mailing list brader "umar_***" tolong hantarkan ke stesen bas.. sebelum tu kitaorang makan2 nasi ayam dulu... ambik berkat!!



then pi stesen.. alhamdulillah ada satu tiket ke KT... dalam 9:30/11:30 camtu.. syukur... lepak2 kejap dan naik bas balik kg...



sampai kat KT, my anak sepupu dtg ambik ngan keta.. then lepak2 minum2 kat MYDIN.. pastuh baru le balik umah...

lepak2 banyak ngan my mum la.. since dia sakit.. xbrp boleh jalan.. dan berpeluang jumpa "Juki" MBCians yg pesan beli mentol headlamp ZX2.. dan ambik skali mentol YAMAHA ( SS/RXZ/EX5) ori jepun.. gasak yo ehehe..

dalam lepak2 cerita2 kat rumah tu.. rupanya2 mak dia kawan lama mak aku.. so makin panjang la ceritanya.. ahahahaha...

so pung pang pung pang.. sampai masa nak balik KL, dan ambik moto aku kat Temerloh semula.. salah satu dr mende atau "buah tangan" yg dibawak balik, adalah keropok losong la.. faves keropok aku/family ( kalu kopok lekor ) satu tpt je kat losong nun...

Ahaaa tuh speselnya.. diproses, digaul, diuli dan digentel kat situ gak.. rebus terus jual... panas2 fresh2 terus beli bungkus ( atau nak makan terus.. panas2 woooo )..

boleh tapau keropok keping, sos, keropok ikna parang, udang dan lain2.. semua produk kampung..

Terjumpa iklan blackberry kat net, then terus kontek tuannya.. tup2 dah ada org book! arghhh.. tensen2.. so aku cop kata kalau tak jadik, terus aku jadik ambik!!..

mlm tu tengah2 makan ngan kawan2.. then suddenly ada sms kata "org tu tak jadik ambik".. so terus book.. terus jadik.. esok pi KLCC setkan jumpa dan deal ngan owner..

dia demo lebih kurang how to use it.. then terus jadik.. alhamdulillah.. murah giler plak tu siap boxset ngan lain2 acc lengkap..

Hari minggu aku pegik satu port baru mandi manda kat Gombak bt 12 jln lama ke Bentong.. mmg agak remote sikit tp situ mandi syiok wooo air sejukkkk.. nyaman gituh...










mandi sampai kecut!! ahahahahaa... syiok syiok.. later bawak geng2 bikers la pulak...

Dah lama aku dok "melenjan" NSR aku.. mau dah 4 tahun... round2 merata habis satu Malaya dah.. so now aku beli lg sebijik "helper" dia.. so later aku boleh la cantik2kan sikit, cat ke apa2 ke kat NSR aku tu..

Motor kene ambik di KUKTEM/UMP dekat2 Kuantan.. Gambang actually..



So travel by bus.. tah apa ekspres aku naik dah.. bedal je masa pi kat pekeliling tu.. sampai je terus ada bas ready!! hentammmmm.. bas lebihkurang pkl 10 pg...

Reach Kuantan/Gambang kat area UMP/KUKTEM dan someone pick me up ( tuan punye moto )..

pi sembang2 tgk moto.. and makan2 sikit.. lepak2 pastuh test2 moto...





Nak citer pasal condition.. nih kira.. "payah_nak_ckp_gak_la".... sort of UNSATISFACTORY.. luar semua ok.. rupa kira hensem gakla tp apa yg aku kene repair:

1- Fork depan out.. lembut giler dan mmg kene servis, ganti minyak, oilseal, dan fork tu sendiri "dah makan"
2- Enjin nak kene overhaul, piston/ring "ada bunyi", conrod pun "ada bunyi" mean nak kene overhaul salin.. at least conrod, piston, ring, pin, bearing atas bawah..
3- Clutch "dah habis", kena salin clutch plate.
4- Silencer exhaust actually dah patah kat ujung.. cuma masa ambik aku xpasan..
5- 2T diset terlalu besar dan sedut kow2
6- Carb setting tak betul

masa start/bawak/test motor amatlah semput dan ala2 "gila".. carb kene set semula masa bawak masuk hiway.. mmg tersedu2/semput.. tapi kalau rev tinggi ok pulak... 120-140km/j stable je.. so something wrong somewhere... later aku nak kene godek le ni... arghhh...

anyway motor ni aku dah janji aku nak ambik dengan certain2 price.. so janji is janji.. aku pegang janji.. so aku ambik dan akan repair.. cuma tak expected "rosak_begitu_banyak"

so isi full minyak petrol, isi 2T full2 beli ESSO Power 2T ( ok gakla jenis ni ).. "just hit the highway".. terus balik KL... lalu LPT..

tengah2 jalan rasa mcm pelik sikit.. cepat bebeno minyak habis? heran betul? dah nak reach kawasan temerloh tp minyak dah nak "E"..

Confuse2.. rupa2nya aku lupe.. tangki RG ni kecik la.. aku besa bawak NSR tangki beso.. so satu tangki NSR dr KL-Kuantan boleh shoot tanpa stop refill ( tapi aku akan tetap refill di Temerloh, just as precaution ).. so tangki RG ni boleh muat dalam 4liter++ atau dekat2 5 liter saja...

Dah risau kalau2 terkandas kat hiway, jumpa exit ke jengka/Kg awah, terus keluar carik pam minyak.. tak kira la minyak botol ka, pam kampung/biasa ka janji petrol...
